TERRE HAUTE — Vigo County CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, recently completed training of 10 new volunteers to advocate for children in abused and neglected homes.

The new CASA volunteers are Cindy Adams, Mary Canarecci, Phyllis Chavis, Andrew Findley, Cherie Gilbert, Susan Resch, Jessica Staggs, John Walters and Jeanine Weger.

Even with each of the new volunteers taking one or two cases, there are still 70 children without an advocate.

CASA is planning another training, beginning in May, for a new group of volunteers. The training curriculum is comprised of 30 hours pre-service training, covering topics from the role of the CASA volunteer to laws, report writing to understanding children and families among other topics. In addition, there will be juvenile courtroom observation.

Anyone in the community who wants to get involved should contact the Vigo County CASA office at 812-231-5658, email Nikki.Fuhrmeister or visit www.VigoCounty
