---- — A Terre Haute man was arrested on drug-related charges after a one-car accident Tuesday night in Clay County.

The accident happened on Indiana 46 near County Road 700 East.

An investigation by Indiana State Police led to the arrest of Jody Allen Bush, 45. He was arrested for felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of hypodermic needles, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

He was incarcerated in the Clay County Justice Center in Brazil.

At 8:52 p.m. Tuesday, off-duty ISP trooper Ian Portteus was driving east on Indiana 46 when he saw a vehicle leave the road, hit an earthen embankment, a yard sign and a large bale of hay.

Portteus radioed for assistance and approached the vehicle to find three occupants with no injuries. However, he did notice what appeared to be the smell of marijuana coming from the Honda Civic.

On-duty Trooper Michael Featherling arrived to conduct the investigation and requested assistance from Brazil police officer Robert VanBuren and K-9 Titan. Further investigation found Titan “alerting” to the driver’s side of the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed three black bags containing 61 hypodermic needles, spoons with white powder residue, about 20 grams of marijuana, and assorted drug paraphernalia items. The spoons and six of the needles field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
