Bradley contract extension runs through 2019

Approval of deal expected in 10 days

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State University trustees plan to approve a three-year contract extension for President Dan Bradley, which would run through June 30, 2019.

The board and Bradley came to an understanding Thursday, and trustees are expected to act during a one-item agenda meeting within the next 10 days, said trustee president Randy Minas.

During a trustees meeting Friday, Minas described the president as a remarkable and effective leader, “literally being the right person at the right time in our history at Indiana State University.”

The last few years have been challenging for higher education and ISU, with declining state support yet increasing performance expectation, Minas said. ISU, under Bradley’s leadership, “has met these challenges head on.”

Minas listed some of the accomplishments of the president and his administration: managing cuts in state funding; growing enrollment to the highest point in ISU history; creating University College to help new students be successful; making improvements to both facilities and athletics.

Under terms of the contract extension, the president’s salary would remain the same, although he would receive an increase in deferred compensation of $35,000 annually.

At Bradley’s request, he receives performance reviews and salary increases consistent with those for faculty and administrators on campus, Minas said. The last increase, 2 percent, would have been in November.

His current salary is $290,755.

Various university groups, including faculty, staff and students, were first consulted about the contract extension.

Bradley, who became ISU’s 11th president on July 31, 2008, said after the announcement, “I’m excited about the confidence it shows in me. I’ll continue to work hard to justify that confidence.”
