Sheriff officially names homicide victim

Autopsy finds woman had knife wounds to neck

TERRE HAUTE — Homicide has been ruled the manner of death for a Terre Haute woman found Sunday afternoon inside her home. Her identity also has been confirmed by the Vigo Sheriff Dept.

An autopsy conducted Thursday revealed that 65-year-old Shirley Moyer died of knife wounds to her neck, according to Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos.

Moyer was found dead Sunday afternoon inside her mobile home at Gaslight Estates, located south of Terre Haute along Springhill Road.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department is investigating Moyer’s death. Only limited information about the homicide has been released by police because of the investigation.

Moyer’s name was not released as the victim until the conclusion of the autopsy, which showed that she had been stabbed multiple times in addition to having her throat cut.

No time of death was released to the Tribune-Star.

Vigo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of the mobile home community at 3:17 p.m. Sunday, with officers remaining at the scene until 2:57 a.m. Monday.

Chief Deputy Clark Cottom confirmed Thursday afternoon that police had a person of interest in custody and were planning to conduct interviews with the man, who knew the victim and was familiar with her home.
