TH South swim teams’ food drive is today

TERRE HAUTE — Because of changes in trick-or-treat hours in Terre Haute, the Halloween Food Drive by Terre Haute South Vigo High School’s boys and girls swim teams has been changed to today.

The swim teams will compete in the 10th annual event from 6 to 8 p.m., starting at the Kirsch home, 980 E. Monticello Drive, and encompassing the neighborhood and surrounding area.

For the past nine years, the teams have competed to see which team can collect the most non-perishable food during the drive. All of the food will be donated to Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank.

During the food drive’s first year, the teams collected about 700 pounds of food, but quantities have grown each year. The teams are looking to break their record by collecting 7,000 pounds this year.

“It’s a great way for the youth in our community to get involved in helping to solve hunger in our communities,” said Tom Kuhl, program director of Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank. “We enjoy working with both teams and are thankful for their efforts in collecting food for our hungry neighbors.”

If the teams reach their goal, they will provide about 5,800 meals to hungry families in area communities.
