Second night of trick or treating in city postponed until Friday

TERRE HAUTE — The City of Terre Haute is postponing trick or treating scheduled Thursday until Friday night.

Mayor Duke Bennett, after consulting area meteorologists, said he decided to allow trick or treating from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Residents are encouraged to keep their porch lights turned off Thursday night to discourage any trick or treating, he said.

The weather forecast states the best likelihood of thunderstorms is between 3 and 10 p.m. Halloween night, Bennett said.

“It’s just the safety of the kids we have in mind,” Bennett said. “No one should be out walking around in that.”

Terre Haute traditionally allows trick or treating on two nights. The first night is tonight (Wednesday), which has not been canceled, Bennett said.
