Jury seated in trial of Travis Ley, accused in fatal alcohol-related crash

TERRE HAUTE — Opening arguments are expected to begin this afternoon in the trial of a driver involved in a May 2012 fatal accident in which a motorcycle rider died and another was injured.

A jury of eight men and four women, will hear proceedings in Vigo Superior Court Division 5, in the case against Travis A. Ley, 36, of Terre Haute.

Ley was driving a vehicle, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, when it collided with two  motorcycles. Motorcycle rider Leylahnd Owens, 22, of Terre Haute, died in the  crash. The other motorcyclist, Jacob T. Quinn, also of Terre Haute, was injured.

Ley faces a class-B felony charge of causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance in the blood; a class-B felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury; a class-C felony of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury; a class-D felony of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury when operating a motor vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance in the blood.
