Meth bust ends in 6 arrested

PUTNAMVILLE — A tip to Indiana State Police resulted in the arrest of six people Thursday night at an active methamphetamine lab in Parke County.

At about 8:30 p.m., ISP troopers from the Meth Lab Suppression Team at Putnamville went to a rural Parke County residence in the 6100 block of North Saddleclub Road where they found an active meth lab in the bed of a pickup truck, and an active lab in the trunk of an abandoned car.

They also found more than 10 grams of finished methamphetamine and recovered four long guns and two handguns. One of the long guns had the serial numbers filed off.

Police arrested the property owner, 54-year-old Larry Kelly of Waveland, along with Jared Mashburn, 31, of Darlington; Roger Thayer, 57, and Timmy Hodges, 51, both of Crawfordsville; and Jess Cook, 27, and Greta Harris, 41, both of Waveland.

All six people are charged with class-B felony manufacturing methamphetamine, the class-D felonies of possession of methamphetamine, illegal storage of anhydrous, and dumping controlled waste.

In addition, Kelly was charged with felony possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, and maintaining a common nuisance.

Mashburn, Thayer, Cook, Harris and Hayes were also charged with misdemeanor visiting a common nuisance, and Mashburn was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon.

The case was investigated by Trooper Adam Edwards with assistance from troopers Shiloh Raulston, Brent Robinson and Michael Organ. The Parke County Sheriff’s Department assisted.

Anyone wanting to report suspected meth activity in the Putnamville ISP District — comprised of Parke, Vermillion, Vigo, Putnam, Clay and Sullivan counties — can call 765-653-4114. Tips can be anonymous, and all will be investigated.
