TERRE HAUTE —
The Center for the Study of Health, Religion and Spirituality at Indiana State University is scheduled to kick off the Third Thursday Series this week with a presentation by Jean Kristeller, professor emeritus at ISU and an internationally recognized researcher on meditation and health.
The one-hour event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 028 at Cunningham Library on the ISU campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
Meditation practices appear across religious traditions, yet have been viewed with distrust or even labeled pathological, according to a press release. Kristeller’s presentation, “It’s All in the Head: The Psychology of Meditation as a Spiritual Practice,” will address the range of experience, from inner peace to mystical transcendence, from both a neuroscience perspective and in the context of religious belief.
