Vermillion County rollover crash injures two people

The Tribune-Star

PERRYSVILLE — A multiple rollover crash left two people injured Wednesday morning in northern Vermillion County.

The Indiana State Police report that Bruce Gray, 66, of Oxford, Ohio, was driving with his wife, Darlene Gray, 65, when their vehicle drifted off the left side of westbound Interstate 74 at about the four-mile marker. Bruce Gray, the driver, overcorrected, traveled back across both lanes and struck a guardrail, according to police. The Grays’ vehicle rolled four or five times on the north side of the highway, according to the ISP.

The Grays were airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of multiple cuts, abrasions and complaints of internal pain, police reported. Bruce Gray was in the Methodist Hospital emergency room undergoing evaluation later Wednesday. Darlene Gray was not registered as a patient at the hospital at that time, a hospital spokeswoman said. Her condition was unknown.

Interstate 74 was closed to traffic for a short time by the accident, which took place about 8:43 a.m. The highway was soon opened for one lane of traffic and later opened for two lanes shortly after 11 a.m.

The Grays were both wearing seat belts, which possibly saved their lives, according to ISP Trooper Mike Laney, who investigated the crash.
