Family practice doc arrested on domestic battery charge

TERRE HAUTE — A family practice physician in Terre Haute has been arrested on a felony domestic battery charge.

Dr. Harishchandra Rathod was arrested for class-D felony domestic battery, according to a news release.

On Tuesday, Vigo County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the 7700 block of Mews Road after Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a woman requesting an ambulance. During the call, however, a male individual got on the phone, advised dispatch that the woman was fine and then hung up, the release stated. Dispatch called back and the male answered, again advised that no help was needed and stated that he was treating her, the release stated.

Upon arrival at the residence, Sgt. Jeff Bell made contact with a man and woman. The man, later identified as Rathod, stated that the woman was fine, according to the release. The victim stated that her head had been injured and she wanted an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Dispatch was contacted and an ambulance and rescue was requested.

After arrival of medical services, the victim advised that Rathod had pushed her to the ground, then he struck her head, the release stated. The victim was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment.

The alleged victim told Bell that the incident had taken place in the residence in front of a young child. Emergency room staff reported that the victim had suffered a closed head injury and minor injury to her neck and that she had lost consciousness during the altercation, the release stated

Medical staff contacted CODA on the victim’s behalf prior to her release.

Authorities then escorted the alleged victim back to her residence and arrested Rathod.
