BRAZIL — A Brazil man was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after he was injured in a car-pedestrian accident just after midnight Saturday, according Brazil city police.

According to police, Matthew Pieske of Brazil was driving a car east on U.S. 40 near Sherfey Street when the accident occurred.

Capt. Dennis Archer said that Daniel Johnson, 52, of Brazil started to cross U.S. 40 from the north, walked into the center turn lane, stopped for a moment and then walked into the eastbound lane and was struck by Pieske’s car.

“For some reason, as the car approached, he walked into the eastbound lane and was struck,” Archer said.

Johnson was initially taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital, and later airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.

Pieske was not cited, Archer said.

Information on Johnson’s condition was not immediately available Sunday evening.
