Linton man dies in shooting

Police respond to report of man with gun

LINTON — An autopsy is scheduled Monday for a Linton man who died after police responded to a call of a suicidal subject and a conflict ensued, according to Indiana State Police.

Officers from the Indiana State Police, Linton Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a subject threatening to harm himself, just after 6 p.m. Friday on “J” Street, Southwest in Linton.

Upon the officers arrival, they encountered James Jarman, 48, on the back porch of the residence with a handgun that he would not relinquish, according to a state police news release.

As officers began to negotiate with Jarman, a conflict ensued and shots were fired. Jarman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family has been notified.

“I can confirm shots were fired from Jarman and from law enforcement. I cannot confirm of those, whose shot killed Jarman,” said Curt Durnil, ISP public information officer with the Bloomington Post. “We’ll know more after the autopsy.”

ISP is conducting the investigation.

No further information will be available until after the autopsy.
