Teen arrested in January armed robbery

TERRE HAUTE — One of three suspects in a Jan. 21 armed robbery has been arrested.

Demarcus L. Booker, 19, of Terre Haute, appeared in Vigo Superior Court 6 Thursday afternoon, where Judge Michael Lewis found probable cause for his arrest on charges of armed robbery and possession of marijuana.

Detective Jeff Trotter of the Terre Haute Police Department stated in court that police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 2100 block of Elm Street. The alleged victim stated that he and a 14-year-old male were in their home when Booker came in and asked to use the bathroom. While he was in the home, two other men entered the house and one displayed a black handgun.

The alleged victim said that he was hit in the head with the gun, and that $310 in cash was taken from his pants pocket.

Police had descriptions and possible identifications for the suspects. On Wednesday, police were notified that two possible suspects were at the Vigo County Public Library. When officers arrived, they located only Booker, who admitted to participating in the robbery. In his pocket, police found a bag that contained eight smaller bags of marijuana.

Booker was arrested on the class-B felony robbery charge and a class-A misdemeanor of possession of marijuana.

Judge Lewis set Booker’s bond at $75,000, cash only. He is to return to court March 4 for filing of formal charges.
