Feds add child porn charges

TERRE HAUTE — Federal charges of distributing child pornography and possessing child pornography have been filed against a Terre Haute man.

The criminal complaint against Emery A. Norton, 25, was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Terre Haute.

The complaint alleges that on Nov. 16, 2012, Norton shared computer files that contained pornographic images and videos of minor children. An investigator with the FBI reported that an Indiana State Police detective located a computer on a peer-to-peer file sharing network that contained the child pornography files. The computer was traced to an address in Terre Haute, and a warrant was executed on March 28 at Norton’s residence.

After receiving consent to search Norton’s computers and a thumb drive, investigators said they found thousands of images and hundreds of videos of children ranging in age from newborn to 13 years. Norton was arrested and lodged in the Vigo County Jail.

He has been charged in Vigo Superior Court 1 on one count of child exploitation, a class-C felony, and 11 counts of possession of child pornography, a class-D felony. However, it is standard procedure for such state charges to be dropped after the filing of the federal case.
