Sunday recital at The Woods

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — A recital featuring songs from well-known composers is at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Guest soloist Elizabeth Maurey will perform in concert with her father, pianist Ronald D. Maurey, a member of the music faculty at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

There is no admission charge for the concert, but donations are welcome.

Elizabeth Maurey, 22, is a senior at the University of Kentucky, where she is majoring in vocal performance, studying with Everett McCorvey and Cynthia Lawrence. Elizabeth has performed recitals throughout the state of Indiana, and has sung for several special occasions, including a formal dinner at the governor’s mansion in Frankfort, Ky., where she appeared with internationally acclaimed tenor Ronan Tynan.

Elizabeth has been offered the role of Susanna (Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro), with La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy, this summer during June/July. This summer program is designed to provide young singers an opportunity to study abroad, and to work with professional artists in preparation of a major work.

Ronald has been part of the SMWC community since 1994, when he joined the music area as an accompanist and vocal coach. A frequent performer with the SMWC Chorale and Madrigals, he has accompanied many productions of Christmas at the Woods, Christmas concerts, seasonal concerts and student and faculty recitals.

Elizabeth is accepting donations for her summer opportunity in Italy. Donations can be mailed directly to Elizabeth Maurey, 301 E. Ridge St., Brazil, IN, 47834. Donations also can be made on the day of the concert near the entrance of the church following the performance.
