Passenger dies after Parke County crash

---- — A single-vehicle accident Tuesday in southern Parke County has claimed the life of a Monticello woman.

Authorities confirmed that Courtney McCall, 21, of Monticello, died from injuries she sustained in the crash, which occurred on U.S. 41 in Lyford at about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Parke County Sheriff’s Department said McCall was a passenger in the vehicle and suffered serious head and neck injuries. She was taken to Union Hospital in Clinton and then airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.

Also injured in the crash were the driver, Jason Haygood, 21, also of Monticello, and an infant child. The baby was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, but the infant’s condition could not be verified today. Haygood was treated and released from Union Hospital Clinton.

The cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation.
