TERRE HAUTE —
Volunteers interested in becoming Court Appointed Special Advocates — people who advocate for children in settings of abuse and neglect — can take part in upcoming training.
CASA is planning its fourth training of the year, beginning Monday. The training curriculum comprises 30 hours of pre-service training, covering topics including the role of the CASA volunteer, the law, report writing, and understanding children and families. Observing in a juvenile courtroom is also included in the training.
Nine new CASA volunteers — Evan Amies, Penny Reely, Brad Nutter, Kimberly Tipton, Shelley Whitlock, Jessica Johnson, Donald Barnett, Jennifer Moore and Chiyona Bourne — recently completed their training.
Anyone in the community who wants to get involved can contact the Vigo County CASA office at 812-231-5658, email Nikki.Fuhrmeister
