Man arrested for 3 bank robberies

Alleged incidents in Clay, Morgan, Montgomery counties starting in 2012

A 46-year old man is behind bars after his alleged involvement with a string of robberies in three Central Indiana counties, authorities said Friday.

Alan McCormick of Zionsville is being named by police as the suspect in robberies that took place in Clay, Morgan and Montgomery counties in recent years.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, McCormick was arrested Friday for the Sept. 18, 2012, robbery of the First Financial Bank in Poland, Clay County.

But prior to this arrest, he was developed by law enforcement as a suspect in bank robberies that took place in the three counties including a March 12, 2014 robbery of the Fountain Trust Bank in Darlington in Montgomery County, authorities have stated in a press release.

Police said the man who robbed Fountain Trust Bank matched the description of the man who robbed First Financial Bank two years ago. The description of the vehicle also matched, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and a suspect vehicle was later located. McCormick was questioned on Thursday and during the questioning, police said that he admitted to robbing three banks in Montgomery, Morgan and Clay counties.

McCormick was arrested and held at the Montgomery County Jail but he later posted $3,000 cash bond, police said. He was subsequently arrested for the First Financial Bank robbery in Clay County, is being held in the Clay County Jail on B felony robbery charges and his bond was set at $125,000 cash only, police said.
