TERRE HAUTE — At least two people were hurt in a two-car crash Tuesday night on National Avenue in West Terre Haute.

An infant was in one of the vehicles. It was not immediately clear whether the baby suffered any injuries.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported from the scene by Trans-Care Ambulance. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

Sugar Creek Fire/Rescue, West Terre Haute Police and the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the crash, which took place about 9:45 p.m. on National Avenue near the intersection with McIlroy Avenue on the east side of West Terre Haute.

National Avenue, formerly U.S. 40, was closed in both directions as crews worked the scene. Multiple police and other emergency vehicles were parked all around the crash site while many residents stood along the roadway after 10 p.m.
