Few filings on first day

TERRE HAUTE — Wednesday marked the first day for candidates to file for the 2014 Primary Election.

Candidates have until Feb. 7 to file for the May 6 Primary Election.

In Vigo County, John Marvel was the first candidate to file, seeking the Democratic nomination for the District 1 seat on the Vigo County Board of Commissioners. Marvel is a former Vigo County sheriff.

In other filings, Donald Pruett has filed for the Democratic nomination for Harrison Township Assessor. Pruett works as a deputy assessor and field inspector in that office.

Democrat Bruce Allen Jr. filed his candidacy for county surveyor. Allen is the chief deputy surveyor in that county office.

In other filings, Robert (Bob) E. Hunley III filed as a Democratic candidate for the Sullivan County Circuit Court, according to the Indiana Secretary of State’s office.

County offices open for election in May include District 1 county commissioner; county surveyor;  county sheriff; Vigo County Council Districts 1, 2, 3 and 4; judge of Vigo County Superior Courts Division 2 and Division 5; and 12 township trustee offices.

At the federal level, the office of U.S. Representative of District 8 is up for election. At the state level, the office secretary of state, auditor and treasurer are up for election.
