Drunken driving ends in cocaine arrest

ASHBORO — A Colorado man was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of cocaine Wednesday night after police received a tip from an alert employee of a Clay County gas/convenience business.

At about 10:45 p.m., a Petro Travel Center employee noticed what appeared to be an intoxicated man in the business, located off Interstate 70 at Indiana 59.

The Petro employee notified Indiana State Police as the man was leaving. Moments later, troopers Todd Brown and Ian Portteus located a vehicle being driven erratically and well below the posted speed limit. The driver was stopped on Indiana 59 near Ashboro.

The driver, who, police said, displayed “classic signs of intoxication,” was transported to the Clay County Justice Center, where he tested 0.19 percent for blood alcohol content — more than two times the legal limit. A search of his vehicle also revealed about three grams of suspected cocaine, police said.

Michael A. Moloney, 58, of Alma, Colo., was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, a class-A misdemeanor, and possession of cocaine, a class-D felony.
