Death at federal prison treated as homicide

TERRE HAUTE — The death on Thursday of a federal inmate is being investigated at the U.S. Penetentiary at Terre Haute.

Inmate Thomas Sim, 54, was found unresponsive in his cell the day after Christmas, according to information released by the prison.

His death is being investigated as an apparent homicide.

An autopsy was planned, but results will not be released, said public information officer Michelle Edge.

Sims’ family has been notified of his death.

He was serving a 234-month sentence for bank robbery. He was sentenced in the U.S. District of Colorado, and had been in custody at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute since June 24, 2013.
