Officials ID victim of Parke County house fire

ROCKVILLE — Officials have released the name of a Parke County woman who died in a house fire early Friday morning.

The victim has been identified as Dawn M. Johnson, 45, of Rockville, who died as the result of smoke inhalation, according to the Parke County Sheriff’s Department. Dr. Roland Kohr of Terre Haute performed the autopsy.

According to the sheriff’s department, at 1:18 a.m. Friday, a 911 call reported a structure fire in the Hidden Lake Estates subdivision, east of Rockville and north of U.S. 36. Neighbors reported that the roof of the house was fully engulfed and there was a possibility that a family was still inside.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the home engulfed with no way to make entry. The fire was extinguished and a search for victims began.

Firefighters located Johnson inside the residence.

The Parke County Sheriff’s Department is handling the death investigation. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office.
