A woman was transported to an area hospital after a four-vehicle chain-reaction accident Thursday at the intersection of Indiana 46 and Frye Road in Riley, police said.
Driver Sharon Kirkpatrick was transported to Union Hospital with neck and back pain, according to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.
Another driver, Bradley Stanz of Clay City, told police he looked away from the wheel for a second and looked up, but it was too late to stop. As a result, he rear-ended the vehicle in front of him, causing a chain-reaction accident involving two other vehicles, authorities said.
Stanz was traveling east on Indiana 46 going about 45 miles per hour and reached over to grab his soft drink, police said.
Stanz was cited for operating on a suspended prior license, police said.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department and Riley Fire Department responded to the accident.
