Tribune-Star staff report
TERRE HAUTE —
An inmate at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility committed suicide Thursday morning, according to a prison official.
Robert Brewer, 41, of Jackson County was found in his cell with a boot lace around his neck, said Rich Larsen, the correctional facility’s Public Information Officer.
Larsen said the autopsy report states ligature strangulation/suicide as the preliminary cause of death.
Medical staff on the facility responded to an emergency call at the unit where Brewer was held at 7:19 a.m. and the inmate was found to be unresponsive, Larsen said. Upon arriving at Brewer’s cell, medical staff immediately initiated life-saving measures. He was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. by a doctor in the facility, which was later confirmed by Sullivan County Deputy Coroner Dave Rollison.
Brewer was incarcerated in May 2008 with multiple sentences for child molesting, two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and three counts of vicarious sexual gratification. His earliest possible release date was March 2027, Larsen said.
