Two injured in early morning accident

TERRE HAUTE — Two people were injured in an early morning accident at Springhill Drive and Canal Road.

An off-duty Terre Haute Police officer witnessed the 5:25 a.m. accident as he traveled northbound on McDaniel Road. The officer reported that a green Dodge minivan collided with a Mazda pickup truck at the intersection. Airbags deployed in both vehicles, causing cuts and scrapes on the driver of the minivan — James M. Cramer of Terre Haute. A pregnant front seat passenger —Melissa S. Aldrich of Terre Haute — was also in the minivan. She complained of leg and abdominal pain.

The driver of the pickup truck — Madeline S. Cummins of Cory — complained of chest pains.

Both Aldrich and Cummins were transported to Union Hospital for treatment.

All occupants of the vehicles were wearing seatbelts. No citations were issued.

Agencies responding to the scene were the Terre Haute Police Department, Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Honey Creek Fire Department and Transcare.
