TERRE HAUTE —
Vigo County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. on March 18 for any nonprofit organizations seeking to obtain a 12-foot alley in Otter Creek Township.
The North Terre Haute Christian Church is requesting that commissioners transfer a 12-foot alley to the church.
The church plans to convert a flat roof on a building into a pitched roof, which would then extend into an alley west of the church at 3133 E. Park Ave.
“This alley is abandoned, but is owned by the county. The alley had not been used in years,” said Commissioner Brad Anderson.
Under state law, the county must hold a hearing to obtain proposals from any nonprofit group seeking the land, including intended use for the land.
The church is the only nonprofit near the property, county attorney Michael Wright said.
After the public hearing, the commissioners can approve a resolution transferring the land to a nonprofit organization.
