Driver attempts to abduct student

Man asked female to get in car, ‘skip classes’

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State University police issued a crime alert to the campus community Friday after a man driving a pickup truck near the north edge of campus asked a female student to enter his vehicle and “skip classes.”

The incident occurred while the student was walking in the area of Tippecanoe Street and Lot A, a parking lot between Sixth and Seventh streets.

According to the alert, the student was approached by two white males, one driving a black extended cab truck (no license plate information).

The driver — in his mid- to late-20s, described as having dark hair, a mustache and a dark colored long sleeve shirt — followed close to the student.

After the driver asked the student to “skip classes,” the truck occupants continued to drive alongside her, encouraging her to stop and engage in conversation.

The student was then asked by witnesses if she was OK.

When the student walked toward the witnesses, the truck fled, believed to be heading off of campus.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the ISU Police Department at 812-237-5555.

All persons are reminded to report any suspicious behavior and to be aware of their surroundings. ISU Police offer escort services upon request.
