One dead, one injured in fiery Vermillion County crash

CLINTON — One person is dead and a female was injured in an accident involving a vehicle that went up in flames early Saturday morning in Vermillion County, authorities said.

Police have yet to release the identities of the deceased and the injured person.

The single-vehicle accident happened around 3:30 a.m. on County Road 1300 South just west of 1250 South, police said, and the 911 caller told police that the vehicle was on fire and a person was trapped inside.

Emergency personnel reported seeing the vehicle fully engulfed upon their arrival, according to the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department.

The unidentified person inside the vehicle was pronounced dead on scene, and the female was transported to Union Hospital of Clinton for treatment.

The case is still under investigation, police said.
