TERRE HAUTE —
Tickets are still available to festivities on Saturday honoring Eva Mozes Kor as she celebrates her 80th birthday.
The event is 6 to 10 p.m. in O’Shaughnessy Hall at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, according to a press release.
Carl Wilkens is the guest speaker for the gala honoring Kor, a survivor of Auschwitz and the founder of CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center at Terre Haute.
Wilkens is a humanitarian who was the only American to stay in Rwanda through the 1994 genocide. When all other Americans in the country were evacuated, Wilkens chose to stay — against the orders of his country and church — in order to foster peace and safety. His actions saved the lives of hundreds.
In addition to dinner and a guest speaker, attendees can help fill a special request from Kor — for all guests to join her in dancing the hora, a Jewish folk dance of celebration.
Tickets for the event are $65. They are available at the door, on the CANDLES website, www.candles
holocaustmuseum.org, or by calling 812-234-7881.
