Illinois health facilities enact temporary visitor restrictions

In response to increasing influenza activity in Illinois and across the country, Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center and VA Illiana Health Care System at Danville have enacted temporary visitor restrictions.

These restrictions, as recommended by the Illinois Department of Public Health, will remain in effect until further notice. The restrictions at the Paris facility are:

• Limit the number of visitors to two at a time.

• No visitors under age 18.

• Visitors to pediatric patients should be parents and grandparents only.

• Do not visit if you have a fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher), sore throat or cough.

Visitors who have any of these symptoms, but still need to enter the facility, should obtain a mask and disinfect their hands at one of respiratory hygiene stations located within PCH/FMC.

“These measures are strictly precautionary at this point,” said registered nurse Amy Arnett, also infection control manager at PCH/FMC. “We have not experienced the high levels of influenza-like illness that many Illinois counties have; and hopefully we won’t.”

In an effort to minimize the risk of veterans contracting influenza, VA Illiana Health Care System’s Danville campus has implemented similar visiting restrictions.

• If you have a cough, congestion, runny nose or fever, do not visit until you have not had symptoms for 24 hours.

• If you must visit and have symptoms, ask a staff member for a protection mask to wear during your visit.

• Wash your hands with soap and water, or use hand gel frequently to stop the spread of germs.

• No visitors under age 18.

Veterans enrolled for care at the VA Medical Center in Danville or any of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics who have not received a flu vaccine should talk with their primary care team about how they can be vaccinated.
