Hoosier Olympian to speak to Vigo GOP

TERRE HAUTE — Hoosier Olympic ice skating athlete Wayne Seybold is helping the Vigo County Republic Party kick off the 2014 election season.

Seybold will address members of the Vigo County GOP, which meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn Apple Club, at their monthly breakfast meeting.

Seybold is a three-term mayor of Marion, Ind., and a former American pair ice skater. He competed with his sister, Natalie Seybold. The duo captured a pair of silver medals at the U.S. Championships and competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The Seybolds finished 10th in pair skating at the Calgary Olympic Games. Wayne Seybold recently announced he is a candidate for Indiana State Treasurer.

“We are excited and honored to have a past Hoosier Olympic star and current candidate for Indiana State Treasurer as our guest speaker this Saturday,” said Vigo County GOP Chairman Randy Gentry.

“This is a great way to kick off the 2014 election season, and to build some local excitement. The timing could not have worked out better with the 2014 Winter Olympics just around the corner. Wayne has a unique life story. He will bring both some political excitement and a timely Olympic story to our community on Saturday,” said Gentry.

The event is free and open to the public. A breakfast buffet at a cost of around $10 is available to attendees wishing a meal.
