Two injured in morning crash near Dugger

At 8:45 a.m. today, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a one-vehicle crash on Indiana 54, just east of County Road 375 East and near the town of Dugger. The crash seriously injured the driver and his wife.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a red 1998 Mercury Sable, driven by Hughie Fink, 78, of Linton, was westbound on Indiana 54 near County Road 375 East, when for an unknown reason the vehicle left the roadway on the north side. The vehicle then struck a culvert, traveled end over end, and came to rest on its top in a ditch. The victims were extricated from the vehicle by members of the Sullivan and Carlisle fire departments.

Hughie Fink was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for leg and internal injuries. His wife, Eithel Fink, 67, was taken to the Sullivan County Community Hospital for leg and internal injuries.

The crash was investigated by Senior Trooper Tom Hanks. Assisting were Indiana Conservation officers, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s office, Sullivan City Fire and Police departments, Sullivan County EMS and Carlisle Fire/Rescue.

No citations were issued, and drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected.
