Driver, passenger hurt in crash in front of bank

TERRE HAUTE — A passenger was airlifted to Indianapolis after a 2-vehicle crash Friday on U.S. 40 in front of a Seelyville bank.

The crash injured two motorists, one airlifted to Methodist Hospital.

Police said Michael L. Riddle, 19, of Avon, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound on U.S. 40 at 4:30 p.m. and attempted to make a left turn into a local bank. Upon making the turn, Riddle turned into the path of a westbound 2001 Toyota Camry, driven by Laurette Bellamy, 87, of Bloomington.

Bellamy vehicle then struck the passenger side of the Riddle’s vehicle, police say.

Riddle was reported to be uninjured, but Bellamy was transported to Union Hospital in Terre Haute with what are said to be non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the Bellamy vehicle, Marian Krajewska, 81, of Bloomington, was airlifted from the scene to Methodist in Indianapolis, for what are described as “serious internal injuries.”

Police said neither drugs or alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.
