Plea deal nets woman 20-year sentence

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute woman received a 20-year prison sentence Friday for admitting her involvement in the death of man during a botched armed robbery.

Amber Reynolds, 33, was ordered to serve 16 years in prison followed by four years on probation in the Indiana Department of Correction. She pleaded guilty to class-B felony conspiracy to commit armed robbery and class-D felony altering the scene of a death.

The plea agreement dropped the charges of felony murder, attempted armed robbery and obstruction of justice. Reynolds was also given credit for the 223 actual days she has already served in the Vigo County Jail.

Reynolds was charged for her involvement in the robbery conspiracy that led to the November 2013 death of Ronald Arrowsmith. He was found dead in the basement of a house in the 2200 block of First Avenue where Reynolds lived with her mother. An investigation by Terre Haute Police determined that Reynolds, Arrowsmith and two other people had summoned another person to the house where they planned to rob the person. However, the intended victim was armed, and the robbery attempt failed. Arrowsmith was killed by gunfire during the incident.

Police found the body of Arrowsmith, who had been shot in the head, when they responded to Reynolds’ residence after receiving a call from Arrowsmith’s girlfriend. The body had been moved and the crime scene area cleaned up, leading to the charges of altering a crime scene and obstruction of justice.

Meanwhile, criminal charges remain pending against Marteail Brewer and Damien Tyler, who were arrested as co-conspirators in the attempted armed robbery. They have also been charged with felony murder.
