Man’s identity, cause of death still unclear after body found in trailer

PARKE COUNTY — Autopsy results are inconclusive for a man whose partially decomposed body was found Sunday in a travel trailer recently moved from Clinton.

Indiana State Police at Putnamville said decomposition prevented a positive identification of the body, but the person is believed to be a middle-aged white male. The body was found fully clothed inside the trailer near the Montgomery County town of Ladoga.

Police report that no immediate signs of foul play were found on the body, but foul play has not been ruled out.

Toxicology results are also pending. DNA testing will be used in an attempt to identify the remains, and that testing could take several weeks to complete.

On Sunday, the Montgomery  County Sheriff’s Department began the investigation after a person was attempting to dismantle the trailer to salvage scrap metal

The person, a relative of the man found inside the structure, discovered the body among the rubbish in one of the rooms.

Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post assisted the sheriff’s department in the investigation, and determined that the trailer had been moved to Montgomery County on June 10 after the city of Clinton notified the brother of the suspected victim that the trailer must be removed from property in the 100 block of North Sixth Street in Clinton.

When investigators found that the case had actually originated in Vermillion County, detectives from the Putnamville ISP took over the investigation.
