Mayor will ride to work for bike month

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett and Vigo County YMCA Director Eleanor Ramseier invite the community to join them in riding their bicycles to work on Thursday in support of May’s bicycle month designation.

The pair will begin their journey at 7 a.m., starting at the entrance to Lincolnshire/Woodshire Subdivision at East Lawrin Drive and Poplar Street. They will travel through Deming Park, Ohio Street to 19th, west on Walnut, and end on Harding Avenue to City Hall. Anyone riding to work can join and depart from the group at any time.

Below is a list of approximate times the cyclists will be passing checkpoints:

7 a.m. — Entrance to Lincolnshire/Woodshire Subdivision at East Lawrin Drive and Poplar Street

7:10  — Entrance to Deming Park at Fruitridge Avenue and Ohio Boulevard

7:20 — Sycamore Manor at 25th and Ohio streets

7:30 — Pizza City at 101⁄2 and Walnut streets

7:40 — Arrive at City Hall at 17 Harding Ave.

Those who are unable to join Mayor Bennett and Ramseier on their path can email a photo of them biking to work to mayor@

terrehaute.in.gov to be included on the Terre Haute’s website and social media pages. Riders are reminded to wear a helmet, according to a mayor’s office news release on the event.
