Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosting adult prom on Saturday

TERRE HAUTE — If you missed your high school prom or just want to relive it, you’ll have your chance Saturday night.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is hosting an adult prom at The Landing at Fort Harrison from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door. There will be a silent auction, dancing, corn hole and a cash bar.

“It’s an evening for people to dress up and have a good time,” said Bonnie Ritchey, a volunteer with the CF Foundation in Terre Haute. The prom, in its first year, will also include appetizers and photos, she said. “We would like to make this an annual event.”

All proceeds raised will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s research and education in the fight against CF, an inherited disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. Symptoms include difficulty breathing and an inability of the body to naturally absorb nutrients from food.

About 30,000 Americans and about 700 Hoosiers suffer from CF, Ritchey said. Because the disease affects such a relatively small population, the CF Foundation receives no federal assistance, she said.

Just this week, Vertex Pharmaceuticals announced promising clinical trial results for its drugs designed to treat the underlying genetic cause of CF. The company, in a news release, said it will be asking the FDA for approval later this year and believes the medications could help about half of Americans suffering from CF.

For more information about the adult prom, contact Ritchey at 812-236-6102. For more information about CF, visit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website at www.cff.org.
