Dresser Sculpture submission deadline extended

TERRE HAUTE — Arts Spaces Inc. has extended its deadline on the Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection honoring Paul Dresser and his famous song, “On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away.”

The deadline has been pushed back to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“The number of submissions [was] less than expected,” said Mary Kramer, Art Spaces executive director. “We wanted to give people more time to apply.”

Interested sculptors are asked to submit digital images of their past work and a statement on how they would approach the Dresser project.

“After the deadline, we will meet as a board and whittle it down to three finalists,” she said. “We will invite them to town, where they will create a model of what they envision for the project.”

The three finalists will also get to visit the site where the finished sculpture will be displayed.

Whoever is chosen from the three finalists will be given a $50,000 budget to create a sculpture that will be placed in Fairbanks Park, near Dresser’s boyhood home.
