Farmersburg First Financial robbed

Authorities looking for two suspects, dark-colored vehicle

TERRE HAUTE — Authorities are investigating a Monday morning bank robbery at the First Financial Bank branch in Farmersburg.

According to Indiana State Police, a dark-colored, four-door passenger vehicle pulled up to the front doors about 10 a.m.; a male left the passenger side of the car, entered the bank through the front doors and handed one of the tellers a note demanding money.

A weapon was “inferred, but not seen,” according to Sgt. Joe Watts of the Indiana State Police.

The teller released money to the suspect, but police are not saying how much.

The male suspect then left the bank and re-entered the car, which fled north on U.S. 41. Police believe someone else drove the vehicle.

No customers were in the bank and no one was injured.

The suspect was described as an black male, 6-feet to 6-feet 5-inches tall, 185 to 200 pounds, with possibly some type of skin condition, wearing a black Chicago White Sox flat-bill cap, aviator-style sunglasses, a white, long-sleeve undershirt with a blue outer T-shirt, white cotton-style gloves on both hands and gray baggy sweat pants.

It’s possible the two men in the car were waiting for customers to leave the bank, Watts said. Anyone in the Farmersburg area who noticed two males in a dark-colored vehicle waiting near the intersection of Main Street and U.S. 41 Monday morning are urged to contact Indiana State Police or the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department.

“Someone surely has had to see something and maybe they didn’t recognize what they saw,” Watts said.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to contact Indiana State Police Detective Tom Hanks at the Putnamville Post at 765-653-4114 or the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office at 812-268-4044.

Assisting the ISP were the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office and the Farmersburg Town Marshal. The FBI also is involved.
