TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute family escaped a house fire that destroyed their residence on North Ninth Street early today.

Terre Haute firefighters were called to the 1800 block of North Ninth at about 6:30 a.m. to find the fire and smoke coming from the single-family home.

Battalion Chief Nick Sarris told the Tribune-Star that no cause was available this morning. The intensity of the blaze damaged the exterior siding of the houses north and south of the fire.

The house was declared a total loss and the family was being assisted by the Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.

More information will be provided as it become available.
