STAUNTON — A 10-year-old Clay County girl remained in stable condition Wednesday evening at an Indianapolis hospital where she was recovering from injuries sustained Tuesday after she was struck by a car while riding her bicycle.

The Indiana State Police stated that the girl was riding her bike near Columbus and Lake streets in Staunton about 5:15 p.m. when she rode into the path of a 2002 Saturn being driven by a 17-year-old Brazil motorist.

Police said the child appeared to receive serious head, internal and leg injuries. She was taken to Union Hospital and later transferred to IU Health in Indianapolis.
