Semi hits 2 vehicles; 3 sent to hospital

Pickup, car hit from behind

---- — Three people were hospitalized Friday after a semitrailer reportedly struck two passenger vehicles from behind in Clark County, Illinois.

The crash took place about 3 p.m. CDT on Illinois 1 about two miles north of Interstate 70, according to the Illinois State Police. A Ford pickup truck driven by James Bragg, 62, of Marshall, was waiting to turn left onto County Road 250 North from Illinois 1. Another vehicle, driven by Courtney Lunzer, 20, of Marshall, was behind the Bragg vehicle, also stationary in the roadway.

A semitrailer driven by Nicole Ayers, 37, of Florida, approached from behind and failed to stop before striking both vehicles, sending both off of the roadway, according to ISP. A passenger in the Bragg vehicle, James Bragg, 26, of Marshall, was transported to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of injuries.

Lunzer and a passenger in her vehicle, Ruth Ann Knowles, 52, of Marshall, were taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Both were treated and released.

The driver of the semitrailer, Ayers, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
