Motorcycle rider condition upgraded after crash

TERRE HAUTE — A Putnam County man injured in a motorcycle/car accident Tuesday afternoon in eastern Vigo County has been upgraded to fair condition at an Indianapolis hospital.

A spokeswoman for Methodist Hospital said Wednesday that Rayman Snider of Cloverdale had been upgraded from critical, his condition on the day of the crash.

Snider was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on U.S. 40 west of Seelyville Tuesday about 3:18 p.m. when, according to witnesses, he veered to avoid a dog in the roadway. He then struck the rear of a passenger car that was stopped in the passing lane of westbound U.S. 40, waiting to turn left into the Briar Ridge mobile home community.

Snider received head injuries from the crash and was flown from the scene by LifeLine to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The passenger car was badly damaged by the impact of the motorcycle. The driver of the car, Jenny Dean of Brazil, complained of back and neck pain after the crash and was taken to Union Hospital where she was treated and released Tuesday. There were no passengers in the vehicle with Dean, according to police.

The crash took place on U.S. 40 between Seelyville and East Glenn just west of where Old Maple Avenue meets U.S. 40.

No arrests were pending, according to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, which responded to the crash along with Trans-Care and the Nevins Township and Seelyville fire departments.
