TERRE HAUTE —
A Terre Haute woman was forced to abandon her car just before it was struck by a train early Wednesday morning.
A report from the Terre Haute Police Department stated that Sharetha Dobbs, 23, of Terre Haute, was driving in heavy rain just after midnight when she accidentally turned her vehicle onto railroad tracks at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Railroad Street, which is a short diagonal street near 13th Street and Eighth Avenue.
Dobbs’ vehicle became stuck and she was unable to free it before an approaching train forced her to leave her car, which was then struck by the train, according to the report.
She was not injured and there was no one else in the car, according to the report.
Heavy rain made it difficult to see at the time of the incident, Dobbs told police.
