Jail hijinks result in more charges for one man

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — A man charged in two arson cases has now had additional charges filed against him for threatening staff and damaging property at the Vigo County Jail.

Charles A. Dinkins, 58, learned Tuesday that he now faces four counts of class-D felony intimidation, misdemeanor criminal mischief and resisting law enforcement for allegations of threatening four correctional officers at the jail and for damaging his cell.

Dinkins was arrested in June in connection with a fire at the Copper Bar on Wabash Avenue. He was also connected through a witness statement to a fire at a vacant house in the 2100 block of Cleveland Avenue. He has been charged with class-B felony arson in both incidents.

Because of his history of criminal convictions, a habitual offender enhancement has also been filed against Dinkins.

A public defender has been appointed to represent Dinkins. Judge David Bolk set his bail at $100,000 cash.

A trial date in the Copper Bar fire is set for Dec. 17.
