Frontier Day Parade is July 4 in Terre Haute

The 68th annual Frontier Day Parade is scheduled to amble through downtown Terre Haute once again as part of Fourth of July activities.

The parade is set to form at 9 a.m. and move out at 9:30. Honorary Parade Grande Marshal will be Emery Shumaker, according to a news release.

All parade participants must purchase and wear entry numbers, which cost $3 each. Parade numbers will be available at the parking lot at 7 a.m. the day of the parade. The parking/staging area will be in the ISU parking lots directly across from Hardee’s restaurant on North Third Street.

The parade route will be from Fourth Street,  left on Wabash Avenue, past the reviewing stand at Seventh Street and Wabash. At Ninth Street, the parade will turn left on Ninth Street to left on Mulberry Street to left on Eighth Street to right on Wabash Avenue and return to the ISU parking lots.

To accommodate the parade, the City of Terre Haute will close the following streets from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday: Wabash from Fourth to Ninth; Fourth from Mulberry to Wabash; Ninth from Wabash to Chestnut; Chestnut from Ninth to Eighth; Eighth from Chestnut to Eagle; and Eagle from Eighth to Ninth.

An awards presentation will begin at noon at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds (back entrance will be open). All participants must have their parade numbers and be wearing the same outfits from the parade to be eligible for an award. For a list of the award categories and descriptions, visit www.wvha.info.

An Open Horse Show will follow the awards presentation. Games, with prizes, will include a boot/shoe race, an egg toss and sack race. The games are open to all, not just those with horses.

A silent auction will feature items donated from local businesses and organizations.

Concessions will be available at the fairgrounds for this Wabash Valley Horsemen’s Association event.
