TERRE HAUTE — The 34-year-old man who sustained severe injuries in connection to a battery incident Friday afternoon in the 2100 block of Locust Street in Terre Haute was still in critical condition as of Saturday morning, authorities said.
According to The Terre Haute Police Department, officers found the injured male on the floor of the residence bleeding from injuries he allegedly sustained from a resident of the home, Paul A. Lovell, 36. Lovell was arrested on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery, and was transported to the Vigo County Jail.
The injured male was transported to Union Hospital, and later to another hospital for treatment of his injuries. “The alleged injured person had head injuries,” Assistant Chief Shawn Keen told reporters Saturday.
The name of the injured male and of the hospital have not been released pending ongoing investigation and family notification, police said.
“What we did learn in the course of speaking with people inside the home as well as the neighbors was that a baseball bat had been used at some point during this struggle or confrontation,” Keen said.
There was also blood evidence at the scene, he said. Based on the statements police collected, the injured person did not reside at the location, Keen said.
The case is still under investigation, police said.
