TERRE HAUTE —
Police officers are searching for a suspect who burglarized a local establishment early Saturday morning.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a burglary occurred at Bogey’s Family Fun Center on Saturday and the suspect is at-large.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Bogey’s at 3601 Union Road in reference to a business alarm, police said.
A Sheriff’s unit nearby responded to the call and upon arrival, the officer observed a silver minivan exiting the parking lot at a high rate of speed onto Union Road.
The responding unit closed in on the vehicle but the vehicle fled once emergency lights were activated, police said.
Authorities said the vehicle turned onto Jones Drive and from there turned South on Indiana 63. The vehicle continued South at speeds in excess of 95 miles per hour, police said.
Just south of Farmers Drive on Indiana 63, the driver of the minivan lost control while traveling too fast to negotiate a curve, police said.
Police said the driver struck a telephone pole which broke it in half, causing powerlines to come down across the roadway.
The vehicle also rolled several times before coming to rest on the East side of the road, police said.
The driver of the vehicle, however, fled from the scene on foot into an area with very tall weeds, authorities said.
The Terre Haute Police Department sent out a K-9 unit and they are currently searching for the suspect, authorities said. Officers are also following leads to identify the suspect, police said.
Police said Indiana 63 between Farmer Drive and Lee Drive is expected to be closed most of the day Saturday for the replacement of the telephone pole.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department at 812-462-3226.
